These lions are at the base of the columns framing the front doors of the church -- they are just visible in 3-jpg. Like yesterday's lions, they appear to have been eroded by sandstorms, from the faint horizontal lines across their surfaces. But maybe that is just the underlying sediment layers of this kind of stone. The manes look a little like Egyptian headdresses. The gesture of looking down at the curled paw seems unusual -- most ornamental lions we've seen are in "guard the property" mode.
