Notes (Roving Rube): This is the underside of the marquee of the New Amsterdam Theater, which is now and for the foreseeable future hosting "The Lion King".

The marquee uses old-fashioned yellow light bulbs (Detail) which light successively in a "chaser" pattern.'

Across the street (In Context) is the New Victory Theater, which primarily stages children's plays and was the first new theater to open in the "Deuce" (the stretch between 7th Avenue and the Port Authority at 8th Avenue), at a time when the rest of the street was still pretty awful.

Climbing its steps provides a nice view of the re-lit "Deuce" (Alternate View).
