Notes (Roving Rube): This building (In Context) seems unusually ornate for the Garment District.

According to the Rube's source, it was originally the York Apartments -- a hotel -- and a lot of things have happened there -- some good and some bad.

Because of its location in this bustling commercial district, it now contains mostly live/work offices -- people who have a home elsewhere, but like to have a place to stay in the city to conduct business during the work week.

The Alternate View shows the modernization of the ground floor to accommodate retail businesses. Note the extravagant sheet metal detailing, when a simple roll of black plastic could have been almost as attractive.
