Notes (Roving Rube): NYC's master builder, Robert Moses, cut off Manhattanites from their rivers with girdling highways, and the current redevelopment plan is reopening up the waterfronts to pedestrians. Whether it was done here by lifting the highway up or just cleaning up the area, the Rube is not sure. You are supposed to able to walk/bike/skateboard from Battery Park to Fort Tryon park (the length of Manhattan) along the Hudson, sometimes along the river (silver railings on left), sometimes the path has to go underneath the highway -- shown in .
