On 9/11/02, most of the electronic signs in Times Square were devoted to memorials to the victims of the terrorist attacks.

The "In Context" shot below includes the long vertical screen of the Reuters sign. Other shots are of the ESPN sign (some people are kneeling on the sidewalk writing messages on a banner laid out by a radio station), One Times Square, and the NASDAQ sign.
