Photographer's notes: The Rube did not stay long enough to determine if the gears move on this clock, or are just decorative -- it was too cold out!

In the background is Edward Durell Stone's white marble-paneled G.M. Building (since renamed by Trump for himself) -- it was called "Crest Toothpaste white" by one critic.

Figs. 2, 3 and In Context show this clock against its other backgrounds -- Central Park, the main Bergdorf Goodman store, and the beautiful white and gold-trimmed marble of the Bergdorf Annex across the street.

Fig. 1 is of the clock inside the store -- later the Rube promises to go back and go in to get a better picture of it. But sometimes he been trapped in "people whirlpools" in FAO Schwarz (it is tremendously popular at certain times of year) and been swung round and round the clock, whose hands intermittently spin at high speed in opposite directions, and which singsongs over and over, "Welcome to our world, welcome to our world, welcome to our world of toys, do-do-do dit-dit, do-do-do dit-dit, do do do dit dit dit ditta-ditta-dit". And it takes some months for that song to get out of his head thereafter.
