The Rube learns something new every day, and this time it was that the Baby Jesus ideally should not appear in the cradle until Christmas morning. Which of course makes perfect sense.

This rule is generally followed in Dyker Heights (Figs. 1-3), with an exception that if the cradle comes with the Baby Jesus molded into it, it remains unlit at night until then.
