As with slides of paintings, photos viewed on a monitor usually appear more pleasingly "luminous" then they do as a print. But they remain far from being as luminous as the Rube would like them to be! And, as also happens with our eyes, in order to be able to see any detail in the brightest cobblestones here, everything else is pushed into the brown and black range.
