Former Home of the Ancient and Accepted Order...
...of the Mystic Shrine (aka the Masonic Order)), the 1924 Mecca Temple was purchased in 1942 by Mayor Fiorello LaGuardia on behalf of the city. It was reopened as the City Center of Music and Drama, "dedicated to the production of cultural events at affordable prices". The Alvin Ailey and Paul Taylor troupes often perform here.
